HANDS OFF CUBA

We condemn the intensifying and hostile attempts by the United States to undermine the self-determination and economic position of Cuba. We believe that further attempts to isolate and coerce Cuba represent dangerous threats to peace and are based on false claims about Cuba's foreign policy and military capacity.

We recognises that the US has sustained a 44-year economic blockade of the island and has financed and organised opposition groups in violation of norms of diplomacy in order to destabilise Cuba and seek the overthrow of its government.

We applaud the social priorities of the Cuban government and welcome the medical support given by Cuba to other third world countries.

We call on the British government to resume genuine constructive engagement with Cuba. We urge members to make representations to the UK Government and the European Union to oppose any closer identification with the Bush administration's hostility towards Cuba and to oppose any further US or EU sanctions.

To this end we will affiliate to the Cuba Solidarity Campaign.

We will support the Hands Off Cuba campaign in the following ways:

1 send letters and postcards to our local/associated members of parliament

2 urge our members to take part in the campaign by writing to MPs

3 make a donation of £_______ towards the Hands Off Cuba Campaign

4 organise a meeting locally to discuss the Hands Off Cuba Campaign

5 invite a speaker from the Cuba Solidarity Campaign to explain the background to the Hands Off Cuba Campaign

6 publicise the Hands Off Cuba Campaign in our newsletter/journal/web site/mailings
